2000.04.02![]() Last month, I had one weekend off. I spent a little bit of yesterday working, but mostly, I've managed to get much of the weekend to use as I like. It feels almost like a vacation. I didn't do much with it, though. Melvin and I went to watch The Hurricane with Denzel Washington. It's a very nice movie. A definate tear-jerker, I think, although it ends on a happy note. Afterwards, I purchased a copy of The Sixth Sense on DVD. I also installed new showerheads in both of the bathrooms; the ones that came with the place were very plain, and did not offer much by way of features. Further, I find those spiffy shower sprays useful for cleaning the bathroom, particularly the shower area. They're also practical, if you get a decent one. The ones I bought have water-saving features, but you wouldn't know that to use it; they jet the water out well. I finally pumped out an update to HTMLArchive that fixed a bug I found. Of course, I found another bug in the process. I'll get to that bug later, although as a workaround, folks should remember to specify maxcol and mincol if they want an index. I tried playing with the Linux version of Opera. Seems nice, but I think it's still fairly buggy; I could not get some pages to load at all, and I could not get the buttons to appear. Killed a virus on Melvin's computer! We suspect it came in some email somewhere, but we're not entirely sure how his computer became infected. I've modified his virus protection software to look inside e-mail attachments, with the hopes of avoiding future problems like this. This one would shutdown his system whenever he clicked the OK button of a dialog that popped up with some 'warez d00d' style message (that I cannot remember). It wasn't too difficult to kill, although I'm thankful I created a startup disk for Melvin (or I would not have been able to clean it up for him). I have to figure out how to fix his nephew's computer now. I think the power adapter inside the computer has died, so I've contactd MaxTech about getting a new power adapter. Wish me luck; I'm not anticipating that this will be easy to acquire. If this doesn't work, I'll probably have to get a new case for the system. That's enough for now. Hopefully, these entries will start to come more frequently. |
